April comes to a close.

A few more pictures as April came to a close. The lake pictures are courtesy of my very first tenting trip with my husband. We slept in a hunting blind on the shore of a lake that we had entirely to ourselves, save for a couple of loons who woke us at 4am with their calls. I have to add that loons are my absolute favourite bird, and I wish we'd gotten close enough to them for me to snap a picture. The sound of them is so haunting and fun at the same time.

Graveyard

I admit, I'm one of those people who find graveyards fascinating. Maybe it's my love of history, especially local history, or my interest in my ancestors. Either way, my grandparents live beside a local cemetary and I've always loved roaming about it in the evening. It's especially wonderful if my grandparents join me, because my grandmother knows something about everyone and can tell me exactly how I'm related to people who passed on 150 years ago. I have spent many hours wandering around, holding my grandfather's rough hand, always ending up at the site of his parents with their simple stone carved with work horses.

On a lovely night in April, Charlie and I decided to go and check out the cemetary. My dear grandparents, now nearing 80 and not as spry as they once were, surprised me by coming along.

Graveyards have a strange beauty about them. But never as much beauty as a set of grandparents gently leading my son on a favourite old path. :)

Photographing my world.

These are some of the first photos I took with my new camera, which I purchased back in April. On the advice of friends, I took pictures of nearly everything I could find in my yard and house. And of my kid, of course. Now I have to bribe him, which I think is standard fare for moms with DSLRs.

Introductions

I'm Joni. Twenty-seven (!), tall, addicted to Tim Horton's tea, shopping, fishing, funky glasses, and pasta. Stay-at-home-mother by choice, lover of cooking and recipes and (begrudgingly) running.

This is my husband, Dave. Thirty-eight, paramedic, avid outdoorsman, lover of cakes, jack-of-all-trades, and thankfully, the most patient person I know. Because I am not. We've been married nearly six years.

This is Charles. He's almost three. He's the most hilarious person I know. He loves talking, sweet things, summertime, mighty machines, and books. I promise I did not have a child solely to take pictures of him, although it appears that way. But he's darn cute, isn't he?

We live in a little house on a dirt road in rural New Brunswick, 35 minutes from Fredericton. We have trails in our backyard, beaver ponds to explore, streams to fish, and acres for our insane black lab, Joey, to roam. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Why, hello there!

I thought I'd create a place where I could display some of the photos I take. I feel the need to state that I am not a professional, I do not fancy myself a professional, and I do not have a photography business. What I do have is a new Pentax K-x, a few old lenses, and an interest in having fun with photography.

I also have longsuffering husband and child who model without complaint (...sometimes), but I love taking pictures of family and friends, so give me a shout if you're interested: djburtt@nb.sympatico.ca.
